Living the CineLifeStyle pt. 3 – Sully

Part 3 of my early award contenders is Sully. Is there any way a Clint Eastwood film could not be automatically in the running for major Awards consideration? The legendary actor also boasts multiple Oscar wins and nominations for his work behind the camera including Best Picture and Best Director for Unforgiven (1993) and Best Picture and Best Director for Million Dollar Baby (2004). His 2015 release, American Sniper, was a top contender in the Best Picture race, but eventually lost out to Birdman (still, Sniper bested the Birdman at the box office $350.1 million to $42.3 million). Along with the Eastwood aura, Sully also has another powerhouse name attached in the form of Tom Hanks, winner of two Best Actor nods along with three nominations (though curiously fell short of a nomination in 2014 for his starring role in Captain Phillips).

The bio-drama recalls the true story of the “Miracle on the Hudson,” which made headlines in 2009 when Captain “Sully” Sullenberger glided his disabled plane onto the freezing Hudson River saving all 155 aboard. Though he was celebrated as a hero, an investigation unfolded that threatened to destroy his reputation and career. Warner Bros. will release the feature in early September.
